Just thought I’d share a few things that we’ve been loving lately – they’re all random, but we love ’em anyway.

I just got this Thug Kitchen cookbook from my sweet friend all the way in Arizona! It was such a great birthday surprise to come home to after our trip to Dallas. I’ve already read the whole thing cover-to-cover (because I’m crazy like that), and I’ve got a ton of recipes I’m pumped to try. The authors are vegan, so there’s no meat or dairy in any of the recipes.

I’m planning on tweaking their recipes to match our lifestyle because I’m pretty sure if I tried to make Jon Boy eat vegan, he’d move us to a cattle ranch just to prove that he loves meat that much.

I loved this quote from Julia Child – a great reminder that cooking is all about learning and living and loving!

Major FYI – there’s a TON of cussing (if you couldn’t tell from the cover), but the authors do give great tips for cooking basics and nutritional info. It’s a great book for beginning cooks and seasoned pros alike.

So, I decided to finally be a big girl and get some lipstick-type-ish stuff. Normally, I’m just rockin’ the Burts Bees all day long (sometimes tinted) because of my years of fever blisters. I basically don’t have a lip line because the blisters seem to change the shape of my lips every time they come and go. To say the least, I’ve got sensitive lips, so finding good lip color that’s still good for my puckers has been tough.

I saw this on the Nord.com and had to order it. I LOVE what it does to my lips – they haven’t been peeling and flaking like normal PLUS the color stays on for a while and still looks natural. LOVE this stuff! I ordered these two colors, but I def will be ordering more soon.

I got this super sweet pineapple card from a sweet friend. I’m not big on birthday cards, but this little bit of joy brightened my day! If you don’t know my obsession with pineapples, click here to read more.

We stopped at Woody’s Smokehouse on the way back from Dallas and oohh myyy gerrrddd. We love this place! We always stock up on the pickled asparagus, green beans, and okra + the candied jalapeños. BUT I’m pretty sure we’re bringing a cooler next time so we can get some of the yummy smoked meat!

If you’re on 45 a lot between Dallas and Houston, definitely stop in Centerville to check out Woody’s. There’s one on both sides of the highway, so you can’t go wrong! Their sandwiches are so yummy and fresh, too!

We’re kind of in love with this White Truffle Olive Oil from Olive & Vine (in City Centre if you live in the Houston area). It takes roasted potatoes to a whole ‘notha level. Trust me.

Now that it’s officially fall, we got our pumpkins for the front porch! I can’t tell you how obsessed with this time of year that I am. I don’t know what it is about this season of pumpkins, leaves, football, and sweaters (or just longer sleeves if you’re in Houston). I’m definitely pumped for all the fall food though. #GimmeDatChili

fall decor

Speaking of fall, if you’re into essential oils, try blending equal parts of:

Cinnamon Bark + Clove + On Guard + Wild Orange

Smells like fall, y’all.

When the weather is cool-ish (like less than 85), Corey and I have been hanging on the porch. Corey loves to dig for dinosaurs in our little sensory play bucket (all this stuff was from Dollar Tree).

Notice how messy all that “grass” and “dirt” are? Yeah, that’s why it’s outside, y’all. It gives us tons of entertainment though and everything in the bucket is $1, so mama don’t care.

Annnnd Happy Wednesday!

is it fall yet

But really… it’s the worst.

We [very literally] eat, breathe, and sleep essential oils in our house. I’m not kidding. I put them in my sparkling water in my Yeti and drink it all day long (with a stainless steel straw because I heard the oils can eat through plastic). I diffuse in our living room/kitchen for no less than 12 hours a day. I diffuse in Corey’s room when he’s going to sleep. I diffuse in our bedroom when we’re going to sleep. I roll them on my feet before beddy-bye… ok, you get the idea.
We love oils.

I personally am a doTerra fan, but I know there are a bunch of loyal Young Living folks, too. Whatever you choose, I’d suggest going with a company such as these instead of the kind you can buy in grocery stores. In my experience, the ones in the grocery stores aren’t as strong/pure as the ones from doTerra and YL.
I’m going to make this list as concise as possible, because I know from experience that oils can be overwhelming if you’ve never really used them before. FYI – all the names I use are the doTERRA brand’s names. Okay, hang on to your hats:

To Diffuse
purify (to get rid of allergens in the air) —- my absolutely fave —-

frankincense (just like from the Bible; this is expensive but smells fantastic; it’s meant to promote a good immune system and a good sense of well-being)

rosemary + orange (because it smells good)

melaleuca (tea tree oil – for when someone is sick to make them feel better)

breathe (when someone’s sick with a stuffy nose + cough)
lavender (to relax you at bedtime)

elevation (to lift your spirits when you’re feelin’ glum)

TerraShield (I actually don’t diffuse this one – I just sprinkle it all around our patio when there are mosquitos or I rub it on my ankles/wrists. It helps keep those lil buggers away.)

To Ingest
{I ain’t a doctor, but these are the ones I mix into my sparkling water}

grapefruit (promotes good health with antioxidants + it tastes good) — my absolute fave —

lemon (think about how you like a fresh lemon in your water – it’s like that w/o seeds)

on guard (for when you feel a tickle in your throat or everyone around you is sick – promotes a healthy immune system)

slim & sassy (promotes weight loss)

digest zen (helps when your tummy feels bloated or gassy)
peppermint (for when you’re nauseated or just need fresh breath – I pop these allll the time)
on guard (for when you feel that tickle in your throat like you might be getting sick – promotes a healthy immune system)

I keep all of these in my night stand in the top drawer so they’re easy to access. Jon asks for them all the time when he’s sick or wants to relax, too. The best way to apply these is to the bottom of your feet (something about the way it absorbs into your body). I also like to put them on my neck, chest, and behind my ears.
lavender (to help you relax – I use this every night by rolling it on the bottom of my feet and on my chest)
breathe (think Vick’s Vapor Rub but better)melaleuca (when you’re sick)

on guard (when you’re fighting off a cold)

past tense (helps you relax, but has a slight menthol feeling, so I like this just on my feet)

You can also take a couple of drops from pretty much any oil and apply it topically. There’s one called Deep Blue that’s great for muscle aches. Peppermint is great for headaches. DigestZen can be applied to your tummy if it’s upset. The list goes on-and-on, but I have to admit other than the ones I’ve talked about, I’m not big on topical oils.

I’ve had quite a few different diffusers, and they are definitely not all created equal. The three I love the most are the ones below. They look a little better than some of the others you’ll see, and they last a lot longer than most. As much as I use mine, they last me usually well past a year.

One very important tip about diffusers is that you should let them completely dry out at least every other day (kind of like humidifiers) to prevent mold and bacteria from forming. Mine usually dries out in just an hour if I wipe it out with a paper towel.

This is the one I have in our kitchen and living room:
This little fella is in our bedroom:
And this little piggy is in Corey’s room:
Whew! That’s all I’ve got on oils for now. What are your favorites to diffuse or ingest?

It’s been a little crazy up in hur lately. Last week, we were in Dallas. Corey got sick, I got sick, and Jon had an insane week of work. The week before, we were living a half-life because our ENTIRE second floor had to be refloated. That meant that EVERYTHING had to be moved downstairs/in the garage in order for the floor folks to do their job. That means we had to pack up everything that was all nicely put away and move it all back again. Fun. Real fun.
I decided that I needed a little pick-me-up with all the crazy going on, so I did some [very minor] decorating. It’s kind of a weird season… this little post-Christmas but pre-spring time. I went for a little “natural” theme. I’m ready for March to get here though so I can bust out some bunnies and eggs for Easter!
We got a few new diffusers for the house because ours all bit the dust ironically as all this craziness was going on around us. I’m kind of in love, I’m not gonna lie. These bad boys will diffuse for 6+ hours and the scent is strong the entire time.

With all the work that was done in our house, we had a TON of dust everywhere. I think that definitely contributed to us getting sick. To combat this little issue, I’ve been diffusing Purify like a crazy person. I can definitely tell a difference. I actually really, really like the smell, too!

Jon and his awesome dad had some time to get a few honey-do’s done around the casa. They hung our [yes, we’ve been in the house for almost 6 months and just now put curtains up] curtains in the master bedroom and the curtain rods in the living room (HOORAY!!!). I’m in love with the long, flowy feel of these curtains. We’re going to paint the master bedroom a deep blue at some point, but… first things first.
Jon Boy hung these letters a while back, but they just make me happy every time I see them in the laundry room. Which is basically where I am when I’m not cooking, so… that’s a lot of happy!
Ahhh… a clean mud room. [Not pictured – the millions of pieces of dog food our youngest dog, Penny, spills onto the floor EVERY TIME SHE EATS.] I’ve got a bunch of rag and beach towels in the baskets for quick clean up in the car, garage, or out back.
I’m loving our new couch! The love seat should be in next week. Hallelujah! It’s quite an upgrade from the camping chairs we started out with a few months ago.
I finally feel like my little “nook” in our bedroom is complete, too. I get all the bills, blogging, and other household bidness done here on the daily. I’m a huge Van Gogh fan, so I get to stare at his goodness for a little bit every day, too.
Not the tidiest little bathroom counter, but I put this guy up to show the new vanity chair that finally arrived! Putting my make up on while sitting down [it’s happened only 3 times so far] is life changing. Life. Changing. People. Very seriously, I feel like I do a MUCH better job when I’m sitting down with the mirror much closer and at a better angle than when I’m standing and leaning over the counter.
How cute is she?
This may not excite you, but it definitely was a game changer for us! We had all these stinkin’ bottles all over the shower, so I found a little bamboo shoe rack on Amazon so we could elevate the bottles off the tile floor. We’re diggin’ it so far! [This is literally the third shower caddy we’ve tried. #firstworldproblems]
I know one day very soon, my little man won’t be so little. I’m just trying to enjoy all these little big-tummied, snuggle-with-mommy moments while I can.

All the feels for this precious boy. He’s such a sweet one.

And he really, really loves swim lessons! Too bad his swimsuit [a 2T] is already too small. Somebody send money, please.
