Summer (I know it’s only spring technically) is my favorite produce season! I loooooooooove me some good ‘maters, and summer is their prime time to shine. H-E-B had some gorgeous Beefsteak Tomatoes last week, so I had to grab a few. I made a quick turkey bacon BLT, and I felt my heart go pitter-patter. I’m already dreaming about making an Heirloom Tomato Pie and maybe even some Fried Green Tomatoes. #getinmybelly
life lately
I’m currently really digging this song. To me, it’s very raw and emotional, especially considering that Jon and I are coming up on our five year anniversary (seems just like yesterday…). I’ve been hearing so many stories of couples breaking up after years and years together. Those stories and realities can really haunt you, but this song just puts a sweet tone to my day.
say you won't let go

I recently went to a baby shower for a sweet friend, and they gave us the best party favors ever. They placed a simple, stemless wine glass in each bag. Then, they had an assortment of individual wines to choose from inside the different bags. I can always dig wine as a party favor. I went for the pink variety since my sweet friend is having her second baby girl!

They added an adorable note, too.

On Sunday, we spent all morning organizing our chaotic garage, so we decided to rest in the afternoon. Jon put on the Astros’ game on the porch, and we all just played and lounged outside. The weather was nothing short of perfect. I’ll take all the cool, breezy days I can get before the 100 degrees + humidity starts.

I just bought the cheapest 100% pineapple juice I could find, which happened to be the canned version. It cost about $2 and comes with a ton that you can put in a different container and store in the fridge.

Blackberry Breeze Cocktail + Extras

This cocktail is citrusy, smooth, and the perfect way to end your day (or start it, whateves). If you taste it and feel like you want more sweetness, just add a dash of agave nectar and give it a stir.

Blackberry Breeze Cocktail + Extras

Blackberry Breeze

4 blackberries
2 oz. pineapple juice
2 oz. tequila blanco
1/2 oz. lime juice
Mint, for garnish
In a cocktail shaker, squeeze the blackberries with your fingers so they break apart and their juices come out. Add the pineapple juice, tequila, and lime juice. Shake until foamy (about 10 seconds). Garnish with mint.
For added sweetness, add a splash of agave nectar.

I can’t believe that one of my closest friends having TWINS! I’m beyond excited for she and her hubby to experience the absolute joy that babies bring. I’m also beyond excited because it’s just so fitting that she’s having two at the same time.

Back when we were youngins, we would joke that I would live on her property (because, of course, she’d be totally rich, duh) and I’d take care of her kiddos. She’s very career-driven (and damn good at what she does), and I’m the domestic-type. Our little plan was working out so well until we both fell in love and got married. Put a kink in the “I’ll raise your babies” idea.

But… now she’s about to experience the absolute best job she’ll ever have. She’s going to be an amazing mommy, just like she’s already an amazing friend, wife, coworker, etc., etc. Is she beautiful, or what?

Tea for Two twins baby shower

To show her how much we adore her, some of her friends and I put on a Tea for Two babIES shower. It was just perfect! Everyone did their own pieces and we pulled it all together right before the shower. Most of us didn’t even live in the city where we had the shower, so it was a lot of Google Sheets and Pinterest boarding that got us organized. These girls were so much fun to host with!

Here are a few of the details from the day:

One of her friends tied these faux flowers onto tea bags. It added such a sweet touch!

We had a fun game where the guests wrote something funny or encouraging on diapers. That way, when mom or dad are changing in the middle of the night, they have something to brighten their very tired eyes.

We went with books instead of cards and everyone signed their book. Love this!

Anne’s friend just “whipped” these up after a long work week and a flight from California. No big deal. She’s kind of fantastic.

She also arranged the absolutely gorgeous flowers for us. They matched the decor perfectly.

For food, we kept it simple with tea-themed items, like these homemade scones.

We ordered these small bites from a wonderful local bakery: orange citrus tarts + chocolate fudge brownies + [my fave] Mexican wedding cookies

These sweet napkins with the babies’ initials added a very sweet touch.

For my gift, I decided to get my sweet friend some things that I’ve been given and loved.

These bags are just the right size for a weekend bag for baby and toddler. I use ours for every trip we go on! They’re also extremely adorable. [I purchased ours at a local boutique – Magpie’s Gifts in Cypress – where I had them monogrammed. Love Magpie’s!]

We also asked that guests not wrap their gifts so that the mommy-to-be wouldn’t have to bend over and go through that work. Instead, we went around and would explain why we purchased the gift we did for her. It was very sweet to hear what everyone had to say!

I also stocked the bags with some things that I’ve found to be my staples for a happy baby (and mommy).

It was so much fun to shower my sweet friend and her babies with love. I can’t wait to meet them!

white sangria

White Sangria
2/3 cup frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
2/3 cup lemonade concentrate, thawed
2 cups orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 lime, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 large orange, sliced
1 bottle dry white wine
6 cups club soda, chilled
In a large drink dispenser, combine all ingredients except the club soda and stir well. Cover and allow to chill in the fridge for at least two hours so flavors can blend. Just before serving, stir in the club soda.

This weekend, I got to help throw a baby shower for my sweet friend along with a great group of gals. Her nursery is adventure themed [so cute!], but another group was throwing a shower under that theme. So, since our friend is a teacher [and a few of us are also educators/librarians], we decided to throw a book-themed shower! It turned out so well!
I can’t take ANY credit for the decorations. Abby’s sweet friend put it all together. She did an ah-MAZE-ing job!
For the wreath, she went to Half Price Books [love it] and got a few kids’ books. Then she ripped out the pages, rolled them up, stapled them to stay put, and hot glued them to a cardboard circle. Then she added the chalkboard sign and ribbon. It looks great!

She also made a beautiful banner out of the same book pages.

And she even made some cut outs for the table with the pages. I love the use of authentic books and keepin’ it simple. That’s my kind of deco!
We decided to use the theme to dictate what we brought for food. As you’ll see in the pictures, each food item had a book to go with it. The only one I forgot to go back and photograph was the meatball platter; it went with the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

I love me some Tomie dePaola, so I had to go with him.

Abby looks like she’s just got a balloon under her dress. She’s just beautiful and glowing! I can’t wait to meet baby Syd!

Such a great time! I love when showers are simple, easy, and come together to do what’s important: shower the new mama and her sweet baby. Nothing better than giving love to your sweet friends.

I have a real problem when it comes to Half Price Books. I go in there with the high hopes of selling some old books and getting some moola to walk out the door with.
Yeah.
That never happens.
Inevitably, they take forever* to tell me how much I’ll get for my books. By the time they call my name, I’ve got a pile of books and goodies so high in my little hand basket that I have to set it down every ten feet because it’s too heavy to carry. Such a problem!
*It’s literally a whole five minutes.
But, with a face like this waiting for you, it’s hard not to raid the kiddies section and get some fun stuff to bring home. I mean really, look at those cheekies.
Great Kids' Books for Fall
This past time I went to HPB, they had some adorable books on display for Halloween and fall. I already had a few of them given to us as gifts, but I did snag a few extras, too!

These books make for some great gifts for others or for your own little library. They’re all sweet and filled with fall fun!
