Christmas season is here, y’all! Time to bust out the tacky sweaters, egg nog, and all the Christmas movies + music! We decorated the house in big fashion this year, so I thought I’d share some of the deets. It’s nice that we’re finally feeling ‘settled’ after living here for over a year. Last year it felt like we were still dodging boxes and handymen while trying to decorate the tree. This year was much smoother, sweeter, and full of the Christmas Spirit. With that said… here’s what we’ve got happenin’ at our casa this Christmas season:

I’m still SO pumped about our new dining room rug! It goes so well with the dining room goodies.

Jon Boy is my hero. He climbed alllllll the way up an 8 ft. ladder to assemble this little Nook of Joy [catchy, right?] He did it all by himself. I think I’ll keep him.

christmas decor

I had to take a few shots of some of my fave ornaments. This little lovely is all sloppy glitter glue and fuzzy kitty cat sweatshirt goodness. Shout out to those bangs, too.

This one is very special – it belonged to Jon Boy’s grandpa who passed earlier this year. We have a few pieces up in the house that are meant to be a remembrance of him. I love pieces that have deep meaning and memories.

Jon Boy’s grandma gave us this ornament last year to commemorate Big C’s first birthday (it was allll nautical themed). Such a precious little gift and memory!

We’re one stocking shorter this year since Osa’s passing, but I still love the way the mantle turned out.

So, if you haven’t noticed yet, I’m slightly obsessed with fake candles. I don’t even want to admit how many we actually have (or how much we spend on batteries). BUT I had to share an awesome find with y’all.

christmas decor

I found TEA LIGHTS that operate on a TIMER and come with a REMOTE plus EXTRA BATTERIES. You get 12 candles + remote + extra batteries for $13 on Amazon. Whhhaaattt! Call me Kris Kringle, y’all.

You can adjust whether or not they flicker, how bright or dim they are, and set the timer using the remote.

Okay – enough of the Tea Light Infomercial. This sign is an oldie from a few years ago. I had it made back when Red Envelope was still in business (loooooved that store). I personalized it all myself – text, colors, etc. It makes me oh so happy.

It’s right above this little setup in our entryway.

The hutch in our kitchen turned out pretty good this year, too. The nativity scene was actually my Daddy’s, so it’s got a few bumps and bruises. Jon Boy refuses to let it go though, so we set it up for all to see this year.

These four little beauties were all $1 each sometime back from Hobby Lobby. Gotta love a good sale. Disregard Frosty’s little chipped carrot nose there…

I hope y’all are getting into the holiday spirit. I’d love to see your pictures and ideas for decorations!

Hellloooooooo October and all things spooky, pumpkiny, and ghouly! I love this time of year so much I can’t even handle. I literally decorate our house differently every month between August and December. I’m getting more obsessed every year. Sorry, not sorry.

I bought a ton of stuff at the end of last year’s Halloween (yupp, I’m that much of a freak) and busted them out for this year. Wait until you see what Penny’s costume is this year. It’s epic.

Here are a few pics of this year’s Halloween decor:

I didn’t do much to this little hutch (hey that rhymed) besides throw on a few more Halloween – ish pieces of decor.

Now for some Thoughts for Thursday:

Champagne Dreams Gourmet Gummies

These sound fantastic. Gummies that taste like champs + rosé. What’s not to love? Plus, they’re less than $6! Plus, plus some proceeds go to charity. Booze + Gummies + Charity. Done.

Honey Bubbles Wine

Speaking of booze + charity, this sparkling moscato is helping to save Honey Bees with each purchase. I’m going to be on the lookout the next time I get down to Total Wine & More. I’ve read that this moscato isn’t too sweet (which I hate), so I’m definitely down to try it since it’s only $20.

Potluck Nation Blog

I can’t remember the first time I heard about this concept, but I fell in love with it at first… sight? sound? Anywho. It’s basically the concept that pot lucks are the perfect venue for diverse folks to come together, talk about tough issues, and share a delicious meal together. Let’s face it: food brings people together. E’reybody’s got a rumbly tumbly. We’ve all gotta eat. Why not do it while making the world a better place? LOVE THIS! Who wants to do one with me?!

Not joking. Comment if you’re interested.

This sweet guy has had a little tummy bug this past week. We stayed home a lot this week, snuggled, and watched “Manannnaa” aka Moana. We, of course, had to have a chair full of our besties while we watched.

Also, somebody finally realized he loves hi Mickey Mouse shoes! There’s something so perfect about kids wearing house shoes. Gets me every time.

If you’ve updated your iPhone and are having issues with your photos, it may be because they’re being converted to the new High Efficiency format (.HEIC). This won’t work, for example, if you’re trying to upload photos to YOUR BLOG WHILE YOUR KID IS SLEEPING… eh hem… or if you’re working with non-Apple products. I’ve read there’s a fix in the works, but for now, just go to:

Settings – Camera – Formats – Most Compatible

I had to snag a picture of my friggin’ delicious lunch from PDQ (click here to see if there’s one near you). I had the Southern Buffalo Chicken Bowl and oohhhmyyyggeerrrrd. So delicious! I went through the drive-thru and got a yummy meal that had ACTUAL VEGETABLES! Plus, this whole bowl was just $8. I didn’t get a calorie count on this, but it was worth it no matter the count. I can’t wait to go back and try something else!

Tuesday night was National Night Out for our area (never heard of this before, but it was awesome)! The neighborhood organized a fire truck, police car, bounce house, pizza, and a ton of vendors to come out for a night of fun. Corey was obsessed with the fire truck (and trying to scoot his butt into the pool). It’s so great – also so strange – to live in a place that organizes things like this! Definitely different than what I remember growing up, but I so love these kinds of things for Corey.

I have to end with this quote that’s stuck with me since waking up Monday morning to the news about the massacre in Las Vegas. I’m really having dark thoughts about bringing other kids into this world, but they are the HOPE of our world. I truly believe the only way to conquer hate is with love. Let’s stop pointing fingers, screaming instead of listening, and move towards a future we want for our kids.

Jon and I got just a little stir crazy while we were hunkered down for Hurricane Harvey. We decided to clean and decorate for fall while we were waiting around. (Jon was so, so excited for this fun chore.) I’ll let the pictures do the talkin’ here.

My sister-in-law sent me some great links for t-shirts whose proceeds are going to benefit Harvey victims. I’ve purchased a few already not only for the donation, but also to have something tangible to hold to make myself feel like I’ve done something. May sound weird, but… these are weird times!

Well I can finally say that I’ve been to a block party. I’m 30, so I’d say it’s about time! Growing up, we’d have a few neighbors who we’d hang out with, but this Fourth of July was like nothing I’d experienced before! We were invited by some very sweet neighbors to hang at their house. There were yummy brisket sandwiches, hot dogs, water balloons, kids galore, fireworks (Corey didn’t like those much), and most of all just some extremely sweet people. We had an amazing time! We’re very, very blessed to live not only in this country, but in this neighborhood as well.

I feel like since the 4th was on a Tuesday, the weekend was really just a super extended one. (LOVE it!) To celebrate, Corey and I took a trip into the Disney Store because he’d had such a great few days without tantrums/NO’s/you know… toddler stuff. They were having a sale on the toys, so of course I caved. He picked out Goofy and Minnie Mouse… Jon was worried about the second choice but I think it just shows Corey isn’t gender biased. He’s an equal opportunity buyer.

Especially with these two handsome fellas!

Jon and I both got a little emotional watching Corey play with all of the “big kids”. They were all so, so sweet and patient with him. He played basketball, with water balloons, in the water fountain, and with some of the push toys the neighbors were sweet enough to let him borrow.
fourth of july
This guy did not want to stop… even for dinner! Dem cheekies got redder than red.

Baby boy was super excited for the fireworks (or firecrackers as his Daddy says… what do you call them these days anyway) until they went off. Then, little man was shaking, crying, and clinging to me like a monkey on a tree. Poor guy. Jon and I packed ASAP and booked it home.
fourth of july
After Corey was clean and sleeping, we went to our back porch and enjoyed the fireworks from afar. Our neighbors know how to put on a good show to say the very least. It was awesome!
fourth of july
That morning after hair on Corey was a sight to treasure.

The other day, Jon and I went on an adventure to multiple Targets trying to find this hutch I wanted for the kitchen. I needed just a little extra storage (truly ridiculous to admit that) for my cooking goodies. We also felt like the space next to our window was a little bare. I have to say I LOVE the way it looks in this space! Plus… the price wasn’t something we could argue with. No worries if we have to replace this guy in a few years because of kiddos and dog damage.

I decided to put up some of my white/natural/glass type pieces that I actually use quite often. Easy access + deco… I’ll take it!

Cheers to a short week, friends!

This past weekend, my mom and I went to New Mexico to celebrate my sweet cousin’s high school graduation. It was so great to see family and spend time at one of our favorite places in the world – the Hyatt Tamaya resort.

a family trip

The flight in was so surreal for me. I can’t remember the last time I flew alone. There’s a lot of freedom in traveling alone, let me tell you. Especially after always having little man around. I have to admit, I loved the alone time, but I missed my chunky monkey two minutes after I’d left.

The Rio Grande was so high! It was a great sight to see after years of drought. This particular spot is the absolute most special place to me on earth. Lots of personal memories here. [Pineapple will help you understand why.]

Every time we come to the resort, we get as many of these lovelies as we can. Fried green chile strips. So unbelievably amazing.

Another fave of mine – pomegranate margarita!

After arriving Thursday and seeing family, I went to bed feeling still a little puny. I’ve had a cold for seriously four weeks now. Turns out, I’ve got a lot of allergies here in Houston. I ended up going to the Minute Clinic Saturday after spending alllll day Friday cooped up in the hotel room. I missed my cousin’s graduation and her celebratory lunch at an amazing restaurant. Not. Cool. After getting some meds Saturday, we ventured up to Santa Fe for a birthday party for my other cousin.

They had the cutest flamingo themed party! “Be a flamingo in a flock of pigeons.”

I was soooo happy to come back to these sweet faces [and Jon’s, too, of course]!

Jon and I tried this new drink from HEB and it is yuuuuummmy! Tastes like a premade vodka (with less bite) and lime. Only 100 calories, too!

As of Tuesday after the trip, I STILL had a horrible cough, sore throat, and couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t get an appointment until Thursday (today), so this was my mood until then. I’m super grateful to finally get meds (a mere THREE prescriptions)!

life lately

I’ve been doing a little spring/summer decorating now that our house is all repaired and put back together! It was two weeks of dust, contractors, and having all our stuff all over the place. Thankfully our upstairs floors are fixed and life is back to normal!

I’m a major Van Gogh fan, so when I saw this print on Amazon (only $50), I had to jump on it! I was going for a mix of natural colors and a little gold.

I can’t believe this sweet man is already 18 months old. Time is flying faster than I can imagine. He gets smarter, sweeter, and sassier every day. I can’t wait to see who he’ll become and what he’ll do, but I’m going to miss these days so much it hurts already.
