Life Lately

Rule #167: Sometimes, it’s best to just buy a new one.

We’ve been busy, busy but making some pretty great memories around here. I got to run away for a girls’ weekend with my best friends, was showered with some love for Mother’s Day, and we decided to call it quits with our living room rug after a very… daunting bodily fluid stained our old one. Can’t win ’em all, right?

My bestie and I have been planning this girls’ weekend for about 4 months! We tried to do it a few weeks ago, but then I got a very delicious tummy bug that smacked me on my hiney. I figured girls’ weekend isn’t as fun when you’re drinking Pepto Bismol instead of champagne.

I was only in town for a solid 36 hours, so we made the best of our time together! We went back to the restaurant we’d always meet at (10 years ago) when we were young and carefree. We ordered the same food we always used to and had the same therapeutic talks we always needed. I think good friendships are better than any therapy you can find.

This is also as good as therapy. Free wine + the best pedicure I’ve ever had. Mama likey.

Daddy held down the fort back home, and I think it’s safe to say Brooke was pretty happy about it.

Daddy and Brooke

This fella was happy for the one-on-one time with Daddy and his trip to Nana + Grandpa’s house. Pretty sure he didn’t miss me a wink, especially when his Aunt Erin (pronounced Aunnn Ewwwiinnn) swings him on command.

Fernando, my Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree, is doing pretty well in his little spot! He sprouted two new leaves last week, and I’m feeling like he may actually survive this crazy house. The baseballs that fly past him daily make me nervous, so I think he’s growing new leaves for protection. He started out as a little old 4″ tree ($12 on Amazon), so I’m proud of him becoming a big boy.

I’ve been playing with this tiered tray situation for a while now. I feel like it’s easier to decorate these things when there’s a season or holiday (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.). I’m still working on it, but I did fall in love with these faux succulents, these cotton sprays, these wooden candle holders (turned them upside down), and these coffee creamers. I’m trying to go for a ‘natural’, spring type of vibe.

I know, I know. Again with the wine stoppers. But I can’t say enough about how much we love these suckers! I’ve been giving them to anyone who will take them because I think they’re that awesome.

We used them last week when we hosted a little game night for my MOPs group. They were perfect to throw on the open bottles without having to use the aerator and pump them!

It was so fun to get to host this little girls’ night! I feel like we rarely host now that we’ve got the two littles to contend with. We’ll have to do this more often because it makes my heart happy to have sweet friends over for a good night of food, drinks, and fun.

I was pumped to get to make a few appetizers, too! I made Whipped Feta + Marinated Cucumbers.

And I will find any excuse possible to make Spinach and Artichoke Dip. Gimme that with some French bread, and I am one happy lady.

I’ve posted about these Stasher Bags before, but I wanted to throw them out there again. There was a recent report that said humans are speeding up extinction of animals all around the world at an unprecedented rate. It made me sick to my stomach. We do all we can to recycle, and I try so, so hard to not use plastic bags. I found these Stasher Bags on Amazon, and each month, I’ve bought a couple more to use instead of Ziplocs. It’s small, but it makes me feel better to be doing a little something to help the environment.

Okay, back to the fun stuff! So, we had a play date at a trampoline park last week. Instead of playing with the boys he knows and sees at church, this guy decided to follow a group of 3 cute girls around the park. That’s their mom sitting at the edge of the picture. Corey plopped down like this and was watching the girls jump on the trampolines. No shame in his game, y’all. Mama is in trouble.

I can’t believe it, but this sweet nugget is already 8 months old! She’s started doing this sound where she’s kind of hooting like an owl but also whistling at the same time. Pretty dang adorable.

Brooke Marie

I never knew how much I needed a baby girl until I had her. I’m glad she can’t talk yet because I’d give her anything she ever asked for. Girl owns me and she KNOWS it!

Now, that sweet little nugget is also the reason Mama got a new living room rug for Mother’s Day. Sweet cheeks here had a little baby regurgitation a couple of weeks ago, and we just could NOT get the stain out. We LOVE Rugs USA because their rugs are a great quality and price (currently on sale for 60% off, too)! We’ve got their rugs in our kitchen, living room, and dining room. And I’ve definitely returned two rugs that just didn’t work out. Pretty easy process! Anywho… instead of continuing to put elbow grease and tears into cleaning the rug, we just bought another one. Sometimes, you’ve just gotta admit defeat and bite the bullet.

My other gift for Mother’s Day was this precious necklace from Jay+Jewels. It has an initial for both kids plus one for my Jon Boy. I don’t ever want to take it off!

Jon Boy also got me some biggo hydrangeas for Mama’s Day. They are absolutely ginormous, and I’m in love! I just hope I don’t kill them. I’ve heard that once these flowers die, we can cut the stems down and they’ll grow back. Fingers crossed, y’all!

I hope everyone has had a great Mother’s Day celebrating the Mamas in your life! I know this holiday can sometimes be a painful one, full of all kinds of emotions and memories. Know that you are not alone, and you are not forgotten.

Yesterday would have been my brother’s 25th birthday. His birthday always falls on or around Mother’s Day, making it even more of a difficult day for my mom (and me to a degree). Never stop yourself from saying, “I love you.” You never know when it will be the last chance you get to do so.
