It’s a Girl!
Rule #75: Two kids is more than one kid.
I know my rule seems pretty stupid, but it’s true. Having two kids is a lot more than having one! Especially when one kid is on the verge of threenager and the other is a colicky newborn (both of which are still extremely sweet + cute). It’s been a lot of *sleepy* fun these past six weeks since we had our sweet baby girl, Brooke Marie. I’m sorry I’ve neglected this ole blog, but I’m back at it now. I’m looking forward to trying to get into a ‘normal’ routine again, but with two little humans instead of just one!
As y’all know, we waited until baby girl was born to find out her gender. I could have SWORN to you for months that we were having another boy. Then at about 34-ish weeks pregnant, I switched and felt we were having a girl. Jon Boy and I were both so happy to just have a healthy baby that we honestly didn’t care either way. Brooke Marie was born at 9:29 am on September 6th! Her measurements were the EXACT SAME as Corey’s (kinda freaky, right?): 8 lbs. 15 oz. and 21 inches.
Sweet, snuggly, chubby baby girl (and thank the lawdy for Snapchat filters)! It’s funny to think back on the delivery because during the surgery (c-section), our doctor said, “Oh my goodness! She’s a toddler!“
I guess we make big babies. But I’m okay with that because I looooove dem cheekies!
I think she had her sweet daddy wrapped around her finger from minute zero. She is his mini me in so many ways already. She’s got strawberry blonde hair that we’re all thinking comes from Jon Boy’s mom’s family. She also has a lot of his facial features, which, as you can see is a pretty darn good thing. He’s a hunky fella.
Big Brother Corey met little Brookie the day after she was born. His body language sums up how he felt about holding his baby sister initially. I think he’s saying, “Okaaayyyyyy. Cool, daddy. You just keep that thing over there, mmm k?”
He was, however, very excited about his Big Brother gifts (yes, plural… my mama hormones got the best of me so he got THREE gifts). One of them was this Star Wars lightsaber. Jon Boy also had a sweet book all about how Corey joins the Astros team made for him. Aaaaand mama of course had to get him a big brother teddy bear. I have no idea why we went so crazy with the presents, but meh, it was worth it for the smiles we got. [#momguilt]
We were very lucky to have a huge support system waiting for us during the surgery/birth. It’s a pretty wonderfully overwhelming feeling to know you’ve got some major love waiting to greet your new addition! Here are Brooke’s godparents (and aunt + uncle) snuggling her after she was all cleaned up. [We asked them to be her godparents a while ago by giving them these: Godfather shirt | Godmother shirt].
We got to watch an Aggie football game while we were in the hospital, so Brooke had to sport her future alma mater’s gear. That smooshed nose though…
Brooke is not a fan of her carseat. She wasn’t coming home, and she sure isn’t now. I’m crossing my fingers that changes before our upcoming road trip to New Mexico!
We have some pretty stinkin’ amazing photographers who captured Brooke + Corey in the sweetest way for our newborn photos. Lauren and Heather at Happy Camper Houston are my heroes!
This picture is particularly special because the rocker Brooke is on was actually her great-great grandma’s. We had it redone before Corey was born, and it’s my absolute favorite thing in the nursery.
This is probably my favorite picture for one specific reason: that look on Corey’s face. He was very much a toddler right before this picture was snapped. Jon Boy went to get some bribery ammo (a lollipop) to calm him down so we could get some pictures taken. Once he left the room, Mr. Personality here came out. I love this sweet boy and all his messy emotions.
This one killed me! It was the first (and only time so far) that Corey has held Brooke. I couldn’t see it because I was these were taken upstairs in the nursery, and walking up stairs + c-sections don’t quite mix for about 3 weeks or so.
*Cue my ‘look at those hunky arms’ whistle*
This baby girl is one lucky lady to have the daddy she does.
Thank you to everyone for your warm wishes, prayers, gifts, meals, hugs, and advice! It’s much easier to do the “mom of two” dance when you’ve got some great folks in the wings helping you out. Much love!
