Rule #39: Kids don’t come with instruction manuals.

I feel like someone should really consider writing an actual instruction manual for kids. Why is my kid acting like a mini terrorist? See: page 20. Why are his diapers something from the devil? See: page 33. Why is my kid obsessed with cleaning tools? See: his father.

I wanted to throw together a little list of a few favorite toddler that we’ve found have made our lives a little easier with our toddler dude.

State Backpack (to replace the diaper bag) | $50

I’ve posted about these before, but I absolutely LOVE this company. They’re similar to Tom’s in that they donate a backpack to a kiddo in need for every purchase made. The backpacks can be personalized, they’re made of very high quality material, and they’re friggin’ adorable. We fit snacks, diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, a changing pad, a few toys, and the occasional rock/leaf collection.

Ultimate Flora Kids Probiotic Supplement | Chewable Tablets

I’m gonna get real with ya… you ever heard of toddler diarrhea? I don’t mean like, “Oh my kid is sick and has a tummy ache” or “Gregory ate a bad banana yesterday”. Nope. I mean Toddler Di-Ahhh-Reee-Uhhh. {Read what the experts say here.} Corey had horrible number twos for weeks. We took him to the doctor, but he had no other symptoms other than the diapers from Hell. No fever, rash, runny nose, cough. Nothing. Turns out it’s a thing. All of a sudden, your toddler’s tummy will decide it just doesn’t want to process things the way it used to. So, instead of normal toddler number twos, you’ll get the nasties. These probiotics have SAVED MY FREAKING LIFE. We call them Corey’s “Chewies”, and he takes 1 every morning like it’s a piece of the best candy in the world. I’ve now said ADIOS, MUCHACHO to the bowel movements from Satan.

Innovo Medical Digital Forehead and Ear Thermometer

We’ve tried a few other thermometers (they get a lot of mileage with all of Corey’s ear infections), and this one has been the best so far. It gives you an accurate reading within seconds, it’s super user-friendly, and you can either take the temp from the forehead or the ear. Jon Boy and I use it on ourselves now, too.

Stride Rite Shoes | $48

If your little person has chubby feet and it’s hard to find good shoes to fit them, then these are the shoes you’ve been dreaming about. They’re worth the price because they’ll last you for a looooong time. At least until the kiddo has a growth spurt. Can’t help nature!

Cups – These are kinda boring, but pretty self explanatory + necessary. We love these dudes. They don’t spill when Corey’s acting like a gorilla and banging them around everywhere + the price is bomb.

Munchkin Miracle 360 Sippy Cup  | (2 for $12)

Munchkin Click Lock Flip Straw Cup | (2 for $6)

We use these InchBug Circle Labels on Corey’s cups so we always know which is his at school, church, the gym, etc. (11 for $20)

Deluxe Happy Kids/Toddler Golf Clubs Set | ($24)

Corey got this for Christmas from his Gigi + Baba, and he LOVES it! I can’t decide if sometimes he’s playing hockey or actual golf, but the kid can’t get enough of this toy.

Little Tikes T-Ball Set | ($19)

Another major hit (get it?) with Corey is this t-ball set. His Aunt Mo gave this to him as part of his Christmas gift, and he’s been swinging away. Although I have to admit Jon Boy has been enjoying this probably even more than Corey.

The Rhyme Bible Storybook | $13

the rhyme bible

I’m part of a great bible study at our church, and one of the moms in the group shared this bible with us for our kiddos. It’s been shown that kids generally are more engaged and learn more from books that rhyme or are song-like. This bible converts some of the great stories in the bible to a rhyme version with tons of beautiful pictures to accompany them. Corey’s kind of obsessed with it already, which is fantastic! I’ve been struggling to get him interested in anything other than Goodnight Moon or The Pout-Pout Fish when it’s bedtime.

God’s Very Good Idea: A True Story of God’s Delightfully Different Family | $14

god's very good idea

In today’s world and with everything going on in the news, it’s very easy for our kids to be confused or ask questions about why people do the things they do (I know I have plenty of the same questions). I’ve really been struggling with a way to approach the subject or race + diversity with Corey. I know it’s weird to think of talking about something like that to a two-year-old, but I want to make sure that he knows God loves everyone of all colors, shapes, races, religions, sizes, etc. (Yes, I even said different religions.) This book is a very cute, kid-friendly way to bring up the topic and plant the seeds I want sown in my little man’s head.

I know there are some resident parents out there who have TONS more ideas for toddlers. What are your favorite things for your little ones?

I hope you enjoyed this Toddler Favorites post! If you did, check out these similar ones.

  1. Thanks! Some good gift ideas for showers and more! Always a great read, and remember, the Isle of Man (and Pitcher mantra) of whichever way you throw me, I will stand!
