Parents Gone Wild and The Search for Fernando’s Girlfriend

Parents Gone Wild and The Search for Fernando’s Girlfriend

Rule #196: Plants need partners.

This past weekend, Jon Boy and I enjoyed a little staycation at the Marriott Marquis in Houston. Friday night it was just the two of us, so we enjoyed a little date night before our friends joined us on Saturday. Parents Gone Wild Weekend was really more about who went to bed the earliest (I won on that front – Mama can’t hang) and how many conversations we could have about bad backs, politics, and gardening. We cray.

We decided to be as healthy as possible during our staycation. We started date night at Biggio’s Bar and Grill (located inside the Marriott Marquis) with some beer and queso. We are the faces of healthy living.

Then, we walked across the street to Grotto Downtown. We’d never been to any of the Grotto locations, but I can assure you, we will be going back soon! We shared things from the Small Plates menu which is my favorite because you get a little taste of everything. We started with the Arancini (basically fried risotto balls).

Then we shared the Short Rib Gnocchi (my FAVE) and Carbonara.

Then we shared the Skewers and Parmesan Fries… and bread for dessert. Hey, what can I say? We’ll be featured on the front of Health magazine in no time.

The next morning we were ready to hit the main attraction of the Marriott Marquis: the lazy river in the shape of Texas! We camped out in the New Mexico area (credit to my bud, Blake, for that one) which was an adults-only section. I have to say, I wouldn’t recommend taking your kids to this pool. There’s a lot drinking (which is perfectly fine), adults-only conversation (also perfectly fine), and some interesting bikini choices (sometimes perfectly fine… others not so much).

We snagged our floats early and lazed around the river all day.

It was pretty magical to have so much uninterrupted adult time! And we got a tan to boot!

We will definitely be coming back soon! We had great service everywhere we went: Biggio’s, the pool bar, poolside service, room service, High Dive (grill by the pool), and Walker Street Kitchen (see below for brunch). This five star hotel definitely did NOT disappoint!

Jon Boy and I enjoyed Sunday Brunch at Walker Street Kitchen. It was the perfect ending to a fun Parents Gone Wild Weekend!

We were so crazy I only had time to finish one whole crossword! We’re bananas I tell you!

In other random news, I posted about these bad boys on my Instagram and had a TON of questions! I use the Tinkle Razors to dermaplane my face. This helps get rid of the peach fuzz and dead skin that can 1) clog up my pores and 2) keep my favorite products from working their best. I only use them once or twice and then toss them. They’re so cheap that I don’t worry about the cost! My favorite product to follow up with are these PowerGlow 1 Minute Peels. It’s just what it says: a 1-minute peel. I apply it to my clean, dry face at night. I wipe it all over my face, avoiding the eye area, then let it dry. Afterwards I follow with my moisturizer and move on with my life! I use the Tinkle Razors once every other week and the peels about 3 times a week.

Now for the moment you’ve been waiting for… the gossip of the month… Fernando the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree (who we’ve had for over 5 years now) has a girlfriend!

Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree

I’m currently conducting a poll on my Instagram + Facebook Stories to see what her name should be. I’ve had some funny additions so we may be looking at a run-off, folks. She only cost $12 on Amazon (I ordered Fernando from the same retailer 5 years ago and he’s still kickin’). I just keep them in bright, indirect light and water them only when the soil is completely dry. I love the planters they’re in, too! Perfect for an indoor plant!

Hopefully now that Fernando has a partner, he’ll continue to flourish. He’s been lonely for too long now. Happy Tuesday, folks!
